This bike is in excellent condition having been owned and meticulously improved and maintained by me over the last 7 years. Original transferrable registration number, matching engine and frame numbers corresponding to V5C and original green continuation logbook. This machine is a reliable first kick starter and being fitted with an 8.5:1 piston is very quick off the mark and rides beautifully with no vibration.
The clutch clears well with no slip or drag. The gearchange is precise and quick.
Carburation is clean with no stuttering or hesitation. Both tyres are almost new with no perceptible wear. The bike does not smoke and is leak-free. Handling and braking are well up to traditional Norton standards. The bike is ready for a summer's riding and beyond with no work required.
I am only regretfully parting with the Norton as increasing anno domini means I rarely use it and it is time for something smaller and lighter. And with an electric starter...
Some details of work done:
Extensive top quality rechroming including exhaust and silencer;
Extensive use of stainless steel eg pushrod tubes;
Re-enamelling of most cycle parts - note that as the machine has been in use there are some minor marks;
All new control cables using PTFE lined cable;
Painted silver petrol tank (correct for year) with correct lining and transfers;
Rebuilt front wheel with new rim and spokes from Central Wheel;
Completely rewired and fitted with LED indicators which can be removed without leaving traces;
Gearbox rebuilt with new bearings;
Magneto, dynamo and original Lucas voltage control unit rebuilt;
Brakes relined by Villiers Services;
Cylinder head overhauled;
Speedometer overhauled and recalibrated by Chronometrics in Nottingham;
New primary and rear chains.
These videos were taken some time ago. Since then much of the work detailed above has been done, but you can get an idea of how the Norton runs from them. The photos below were taken a few days ago.
